In the UK, we lead with the words "Defecating dog sparks US shootout". In the US they see it from a slightly different angle, using the words: "The Mississippi Dog Shit Shootout". Either way, the end result is the same. Dog fouling has led to a violent confrontation involving the use of firearms.
Here in the UK, we have a very sedate image of the rural US, especially the Deep South. That image has been shattered by an argument over dog fouling on private land. A Mr Tehnet was angry because he thought A Mr Blasingame's dog had defecated on his lawn. In the UK, there might be an argument, which could lead to civil litigation. In the US, it seems equally as logical that the parties involved in the dispute should repair to the levee and resolve the issue through the use of firearms.
Although the shootout didn't happen at the levee, it certainly took place in the neighbourhood. Mr Blasingame allegedly shot first and Mr Tehnet appears to have received multiple shotgun wounds. Mr Blasingame was charged with aggravated assault. Charges are also possible for Mr Tehnet.
The only positive aspect to this it that at least the environment has benefited from the fact that a non-biodegradable poo bag was not used.
Washington County Chief Deputy Sheriff Billy Barber really hits the nail on the head by advising as follows: "Homeowners and property owners need to respect each other's property... If a dog did that in your yard, call the law. Don't take matters into your own hands."
Clearly the gentleman in the video three posts below should listen to the advice regarding not taking the matter into your own hands!
