A double whammy is described in the Oxford Dictionary as "something that causes two problems at the same time, or when two setbacks occur at the same time."
I think this explains it much better ...

I think this gives a valuable perspective on life. Look at how doing the right thing can suddenly become a two-fold act of evil.
