News Shopper, Snow and Alleyways

Once again, the News Shopper has hit the nail on the head regarding dog fouling. Our thanks must, again, go to our South London/North Kent operative, Julian, for bringing these matters to our attention.

Alleyways are a constant issue. Bexley leads the way again. The footpath between Heath Way and Northumberland Way is absolutely awash! Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator for Heath Way, Claire Watts, sums it up: "We have to do the poo dance on the way to school". Mum-of-two Katie Melville, who uses a pushchair, said: "If it gets on the wheels it comes in my house". This is just the problem, which we have always emphasised!

Snow is also a real issue for us. We have seen a video below of dog fouling in the snow. Is it really an issue, which bothers people?

Ask L Williams of Biggin Hill. He likes the snow but hates dog fouling. For him, this is so serious that he asks: "where are the community police when we need them"? As we read his views I can only observe: "amen to that"!

Driveways, Snow and Dog Fouling

Here at Dog Fouling and Red Rubber Bands, we have made so many references to snow and driveways that it would not be possible to link to them all.

Sometimes, a simple video tells the whole story and we are, therefore, extremely grateful to jusminerose100 for this simple but powerful video. It says it all. It's snowing and the light is fading (another topic, which we have featured before).

A dog owner walks his/her dog along. The owner appears to have a poo bag in his/her hand but fails to clean up after the dog appears to defecate right in the middle of the entrance to the drive!

I have examined the video and can't decide if the dog merely urinates but, whatever the truth might be, this video once again shows the power of CCTV and the need to use surveillance for the right reasons!

Dog Fouling a Problem In Newport?

Well it clearly is for EpicZebraTime!

This song is full of feeling and passion as well as a mass of bad language but we are all adults.

Again, the feeling of the song leaves me with little to say.

If music be the food of excrement, foul on!

Kev Codey, SOAP and Dog Excrement

Now you could be forgiven for thinking that SOAP relates to washing away the effects of the excrement mentioned in the title of this post. You would, however, be wrong. SOAPis actually the Saltburn Open Acoustic Platform, which appears to take place at the Conservative club in Saltburn.

From what I can see, this is one of those enjoyable events, where local artists take to the stage and perform. Given the community orientated nature of such events, it comes as no surprise that dog fouling should feature.

I can't really add anything to this other than to observe that, once again, music has been used to deliver the dog fouling message. Many thanks to Kev Codey for giving us this song and to teesidesteve for giving us the video.

Night Vision Goggles - Not Just a Military Option!

Or it certainly isn't for Hyndburn council in Lancashire. Our thanks must go to the Mail Online for bringing us this story.

We've seen controversy over the use of CCTV and covert surveillance systems to combat dog fouling. Now, the use of night vision equipment to combat after dark dog fouling is bound to raise further issues of liberty v the public interest.
Councillor Ken Moss is absolutely with us and appears to have thrown his weight behind the night vision initiative. He states:"Most dog walkers are creatures of habit and if people are regularly offending in the same spot, the wardens could use that information to stamp out the irresponsible minority". Has Ken been reading our blog and seen that our founder and leader is known as "stamp on it"? Could it be that Ken is looking to slip in a pun without his electorate realising? We don't know but we welcome his support.

As ever, our thoughts should really be with those, who have to engage in the enforcement activity. While we are all grateful for our jobs in this recession hit world, not many of us would hide in bushes at night to detect dogs fouling the environment and then having to jump out on the owner. One day, it could be a vicar's wife as her poodle let's one go in the park. Not an easy situation to manage! Seeing this picture in the Mail, I imagined the following radio transmission: "Ranger control, ranger control from Alpha 1, fouling at 33 degrees north, request air support and a shovel". Hyndburn dog warden Fran Gibbons shows how his team will operate as they try to catch offenders in the town centre and elsewhere. As a closing thought, where would you really focus your attention on a night time patrol? I would suggest the ground. You won't catch anybody but you'll spare your carpets!
